We met with the State Service Management Office (SSMO) yesterday to progress talks on a new 12-hour shift agreement. SSMO wasn’t able to provide a full offer – but committed to meeting with us again in two weeks with more.
SSMO suggested that they were only wiling to pay you a 14.1% shift penalty in your new agreement. This is just an update of the old calculation they were using that captures the higher shift penalties in your current award. We made it clear that we won’t accept anything less than the shift penalties that nurses receive.
When we asked about providing you with paid meal breaks (which is already in the award), they ummed and ahhed, saying that they haven’t finalised a position because one of the shift lengths at Roy Fagan doesn’t quite match up to 12 hours.
We also followed up on the PPE allowance claim from our previous meeting, which replicates the entitlement that nurses received. Frustratingly, SSMO acted like they heard this the first time. We’ve now committed to sending them a revised log to clarify.
We’ll keep you updated after the next meeting.
