After members at Roy Fagan raised concerns regarding several workers being asked to change their roster from fixed
day/night shifts, we wrote to the Department to tell them they could not force workers to do this
without consultation. They have now confirmed to us that they will not force roster changes and
will adhere to the consultation requirements in the Award.
We know that many members have been working fixed day/night shifts for years and were
concerned about having to change their roster pattern. This would be a major workplace change
– so we let the Department know that they would have to consult members through a change
proposal process if they wanted to consider this.
What the Department has told us is that while individuals have been asked if they would like to
change their work pattern, they will not force anyone to move to day/nights. They confirmed that
if they did look at this down the track, they would consult with members and HACSU.
What this means is that if management ask you to change your roster from your set day/nights,
you are under no obligation to agree.
