Possability: it's your right - you don't need their approval

You may have seen the “Application for approval to engage in outside employment” notice from Possability requiring that you declare and seek approval for any other employment outside of your role with them.

Let’s be clear – you’re not obligated to fill out that form. It’s neither lawful nor reasonable for them to make this request.

It’s actually outrageous that Possability would think that they have the power to stop you from working elsewhere and that you would have to “seek approval” from them to do that.

Given their choice to employ most workers as part-time or casual, it’s only natural you may need another job to get by, especially with the cost of living skyrocketing. You have every legal right to maximize your earnings, and if Possability wants to help, they should offer you full-time positions.

Declaring a conflict of interest is fair enough, but needing a second job to make ends meet because your first employer doesn’t provide enough hours is not a conflict!

Our advice is that you do not submit that application for approval.
