HACSU News

HACSU State Secretary Robbie Moore, Judy Richmond, HACSU Assistant State Secretary Tammy Munro, Chris Webb

A note from HACSU State Secretary Robbie Moore:

Marking the end of an era, Judy Richmond, a registered nurse at Mersey Community Hospital and our union's President for over 30 years, has retired. Similarly, Chris Webb, our Senior Vice President who worked most of his life at the Royal Hobart Hospital and is a 45-year veteran of the Committee of Management, has also stepped down.

Both Judy and Chris have dedicated countless volunteer hours to our union over the years. They are both life members and will still be a part of HACSU, but we are still sad to see them step down from their roles. Assistant State Secretary Tammy Munro and I want to personally thank them for not only their amazing contributions over the years, but also for the wonderful personal support they have both provided to us.

The exciting news is that we are well equipped to cope with their retirements, and I’m proud to announce that Lauren Vanier has been elected by the HACSU Committee of Management to replace Judy as our new President. Lauren is a Pharmacist at the Royal Hobart Hospital and a committed unionist who will be a great leader.

Tanya Clifford, who is a Hospital Aide at the Royal Hobart Hospital, was elected to replace Chris as Senior Vice President. Tanya is also a committed unionist who has been on our Committee of Management for a number of years and makes an enormous contribution to our union.

Along with the above changes, Tonya Walker, a former disability services worker on the North West Coast – who now works as a Carer in aged care at Respect Coroneagh Park in Penguin, and Triona Shearer, a Carer at Uniting AgeWell Kings Meadows in Launceston, have both been elected as members of HACSU’s Committee of Management.

Renewal is always important, and this is an exciting time for our union as we continue to focus on improving your working conditions.

If you want to learn more about your democratically elected Committee of Management or if you would be interested in being involved in the future, please give us a call at HACSUassist on 1300 880 032.

I once again want to honour Judy and Chris for their amazing contributions to HACSU. I am also so excited to welcome the new members to our Committee of Management and our new President and Senior Vice President.

In unity,
Robbie
